Why do we need a zen festival?
Because we could all use a little joy, healing, connection, and fun. The last few years have been very challenging. We are stressed beyond capacity. And yet, the quick solutions we have chosen aren’t working.
We’re popping more pills, binging more television, and engaging in various forms of escapism and yet the challenges remain. It’s time for something different.
This is the combination we’re offering: transformational teachers and inspirational entertainment, all mixed together in a cultural oasis for people seeking to reconnect with themselves and others.
what is izen?
First, let’s say what we mean by the word “zen.” To many, “zen” refers to a specific sect of Japanese Buddhism. However, we use the word in the broader sense to mean peace of mind, body, and soul. By “festival” we mean an event where people gather to celebrate, have fun, connect with each other, and create lifelong friendships and memories.
what happens at izen?
We can certainly tell you about the activities we are planning, which include film screenings, workshops, talks, music, after parties and awards. But having done this type of thing for decades, we know the best things that will “happen” during iZen defy planning and prediction. You just have to be there!

Who runs iZen?
iZen co-founders Brandon Millett and Laura Law-Millett are social entrepreneurs who currently lead the personal development company Zen Matrix. Brandon is a communications executive and certified professional coach with a master’s in psychology. Laura is an operations executive who graduated from West Point and served as an officer in the U.S. Army.
Together they previously co-founded the award-winning GI Film Festival, which explored the experiences of service members and their families. The GI Film Festival was acquired by KPBS in 2019 and is currently held each May in San Diego.
Who will speak at iZen?
We’re still sorting through applications and shortlists, but here are the types of speakers we’ve had at our previous events: thought leaders, business leaders, social entrepreneurs, entertainers, influencers, authors, and filmmakers.
What films will screen at iZen?
The final film line-up will be announced in June 2023. Submissions will remain open until April 2023. Our events feature a blend of independent films and blockbusters of all film genres, including action, drama, comedy, and animation. We also screen documentaries. What happens at iZen workshops?
iZen workshops provide opportunities to connect and evolve in smaller group settings, as opposed to the larger iZen talks in the main theater. The workshops are run by our world-class certified coaches and will cover a variety of themes all designed to help bring joy, peace, and prosperity into your life.
What is the iZen marketplace?
The iZen marketplace is the place where you will find an eclectic mix of spiritual books and products, including crystals, singing bowls, jewelry, artwork, Tarot cards, and other accessories. We also offer some local products from local vendors. iZen will also include an exhibit space for (Zen tech) for wellness technology products.
What are iZen cultural excursions?
We believe travel transforms. When we select a location for iZen, the first criteria we consider is natural beauty. We want people to be able to completely remove themselves from the stresses of their daily lives and completely relax. At the same time, we are also highly experiential. Part of the fun of traveling is interacting with local cultures and cuisine.
What are iZen parties like?
There can be no transformation without celebration! And we definitely know how to celebrate. Our parties are legendary and feature a unique blend of eating, drinking, singing, dancing, and entertaining. We always have a few surprises up our sleeves.
